Truth is the Casualty of War in a Decaying Empire
People are freaking out! The president is a complete narcissist. In my opinion, many of us are following in his footsteps with regard to respect for the truth and basic human decency.
The most recent example of this, in my view, are these Hillary Clinton remarks:
Hillary Clinton appeared to suggest that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) is the “favorite of the Russians” to win the 2020 presidential election and is being groomed by Moscow to run as a third-party candidate against the eventual Democratic nominee.
In an interview on the podcast “Campaign HQ,” the former secretary of State warned that the Russian government was poised to once again meddle in the U.S. presidential election through online disinformation efforts and by encouraging a third-party challenger to stir chaos in the contest.
The Russians already have their “eye on somebody who’s currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” she said, in an apparent reference to Gabbard.
“She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her, so far,” Clinton told David Plouffe, the podcast’s host and the campaign manager for former President Obama’s 2008 campaign.
“And that’s assuming Jill Stein will give it up, which she might not because she’s also a Russian asset,” Clinton added, referring to the 2016 Green Party presidential candidate.
I voted for Jill Stein, does that make me a Russian asset too?
What does it mean to be a country's "asset"? Doesn't that imply that you are "owned" by that country. Is this a case of hysteria, as opposed to sound reasoning? Is Trump a Russian asset? My opinion is that this was disproven by the Mueller Report, to the extent that such a claim could ever be disproven. But this is something that is not debated on the basis of evidence, in my experience. Please see
Updated Summary of the Evidence on Trump's Collusion with Russia.
But who's got time to wade through all the evidence? We know Trump is a liar, so what's the point? I guess the point is respect for the truth and its role in our society. Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard disagrees with our foreign policy with regard to Syria, so she is dismissed as a Russian asset on these grounds. With regard to Russiagate, there's considerable circumstantial evidence that the affair was a case of western intelligence getting confused and going to extensive lengths to cover up their mistakes. What Was Russiagate All About? for my best guess as to what happened.
The ongoing impeachment story, Ukrainegate, is a continuation of the narrative that Russia hacked our 2016 election and put Trump in the White House. It's all part of
a new Cold War narrative.
