I've been down on the American Empire lately -- for assassinating presidents and civil rights leaders, electing Joe Biden, scapegoating Russia and China, making millions of people miserable in Syria, Venezuela, Iran, etc. But it should be noted that there is a flip side to empire, which is superbly illustrated in this Monty Python piece: What Have the Romans Ever Done For Us?
